A senior police officer under investigation for having RM27 million worth of undeclared assets has until Wednesday to tell all.

An officer with the Anti-Corruption Agency said the officer applied for and was granted an extra 30 days to make his declaration last month, but he has yet to do so. In July, a deputy public prosecutor ordered the police officer to declare his assets within 30 days, but he requested the extension.

The New Straits Times had reported that a senior police officer at Bukit Aman is under investigation by the ACA for abuse of power and failure to declare assets. The ACA has recorded his statement and various documents have been seized from his office. The officer, in his 50s, is a director of a company awarded a development project in Lahad Datu in April.

Several villagers objected when company staff went to survey the area. According to a tipster, the officer then ordered the arrest of the villagers.An investigation into the accusation of abuse of power was made and this led to the discovery of the police officer’s assets.

The ACA felt he had amassed excessive wealth and asked for an explanation. The police officer has not been detained nor have his assets been frozen.Checks with the Companies Commission of Malaysia revealed the officer was appointed a company director in April last year.

The ACA has also recorded statements from several retired and serving senior police officers as part of their investigation.
