Why Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid should be sacked!

by Independent Daily

The recent furor due the arrest of the Raja Petra Kamaruddin (author of Malaysia-Today), Teresa Kok (Seputeh MP) and Tan Hoon Cheng (Reporter for Sin Jew Daily) made a mockery out of the word Democracy.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid said that the order for arrest did not come from him but at the same time he also explained why these arrest were made. He said “I am a minister. I am a politician. If I start to interfere (with enforcement), then people will say I have a political motive. It will send the wrong signals. I cannot interfere. This has to be done in accordance with the police exercise of their powers”. However, if these arrests were not ordered by him and that he cannot and will not interfere, why is he explaining on behalf of the police?

Later, he also said that there will be no more arrest under Internal Security Act, depending on the situation of the public order.

For those who don’t already know, the Internal Security Act under Article 149 of the Malaysian Constitution comes directly under the discretion of the Home Minister.

4 reasons why Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid should be sacked:

1. He does not understand his appointed role.

Section 8
(I) ISA says: “If the Home Minister is satisfied that the detention of any person is necessary with a view to preventing him from acting in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to the maintenance of essential services therein or the economic life thereof, he may make an order (hereinafter referred to as a detention order) directing that that person be detained for any period not exceeding two years”.

The Home Minister has the right to order for an arrest of someone if he/she deem that the detention is necessary and if it isn't then naturally he should have the rights to stop the order.

His irresponsible statement that he is just a ‘politician’ and he cannot interfere shows that he does not understand his appointed role as the Home Minister.

2. He has not performed to his appointed role.

The Home Minister said that the arrest of Tan Hoon Cheng was under Section 73(I) that says “Any police officer may without warrant arrest and detain pending enquiries any person in respect of whom he has reason to believe that there are grounds which would justify his detention under section 8; and that he has acted or is about to act or is likely to act in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to maintenance of essential services therein or to the economic life thereof”.

However, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid said that the reporter was detained to ‘ensure her safety’ which has absolutely no relations at all to Section 73(I) of ISA. This indicates that he hasn’t taken the time to read and understand the laws he is executing and wrongfully detaining innocent civilians clearly shows that he is not it for his said role.

3. Disrespect to the Parliament and the Laws and Constitutions
of Malaysia

Teresa Kok, a member of parliament elected by the people of Malaysia is now being detained under the same section as Tan Hoon Cheng for something she did not do. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd. Khir Toyo was quoted in PembelaMelayu.com, which has since been down at the point of writing this article, that Teresa Kok supported a petition against the use of loud speaker for its Azan (morning call to prayer) in the Kinrara area. This was also published by Utusan and various other blog under the title: Azan, jawi, JAIS, UiTM dan ba-alif-ba-ya.

Teresa Kok has since denied being part of the said petition and has even denied receiving any complaints from residents about the prayers calls. Her lawyers have since requested that the said article be retracted. This matter is still under police investigation and while no conclusion have been made yet, she is now being detained under the unlawful law of ISA.

The arrest of a Member of Parliament caused by a ‘rumour’ is ridiculous to say the least and is akin to disrespecting the Parliament and the Laws and Constitution of the country.

4. Public display of Racisms.

When Ahmad Ismail said that the Malaysians of Chinese Ethnic are ’immigrant’ and ‘does not deserve equal right’ and likened them to Jews, he was strip of his UMNO membership and even that, it is only for 3 years after which he will return to this true form after. In the case of Ahmad Ismail, he was found guilty, if not by the police, which have gone completely off radar, at least by UMNO.

In the case of Theresa Kok, where police investigation have not even been concluded, where she is accused if ‘pressuring the authorities to tone down the call to prayer’ is now arrested without trial and could possibly be detained for unlimited number of years at the discretion of the Home Minister.

As a Home Minister to a multi racial country, you should be the exemplary in anti-racisms. However, the detention of Teresa Kok while letter Datuk Ahmad Ismail completely off the hook, has shown that you, the Home Minister, are indeed a racist.

As if the country is not in a state of despair already, comes a funny little guy who thinks he can rule with an iron fist. The arrest of these 3 people is indeed turning Malaysia into a laughing stock. To me, the message is clear; Oppose us and face the consequences and also certainly not less than a desperate attempt to salvage what is left before September 16th. I hope and I pray that when the day arrives when you son of b****es no longer rule, you will be punish by the same law you punishing us with. Allah Hu Akbar!

Welcome home Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim!

by Independant Daily

I would like to take a moment off my schedule to congratulate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his resounding win in the Permatang Pauh by-election. I trust that the Penangites have made a good judgment on their selection.

However, I do have my reservations because like those who did not vote for DSAI, it’s most likely not because he is not capable but it is because we are not sure if it’ll make any difference at all.

There are a certain percentage of people in the country that still thinks that the Pakatan Rakyat coalition does not have the experience to run the country which, I agree. I also agree to a statement by YB Tony Pua that, this also means that they do not have the experience to embezzle billions of ringgit into their own pockets like the existing government does.

I feel that the Pakatan Rakyat coalition have not done enough since the March 08 election to convince the people that they are moving towards a transparent and corruption free country. Only Penang have mentioned about a transparent tendering process for government projects but how about Perak, Kedah and Selangor?

Being an IT person myself and having been working in Singapore, particularly close to the Singapore Government, I feel that the ‘new’ Malaysian government have lots to learn from its tiny but efficient neighbour. From the top of my head, I can already think of at least 2 e-government effort that Malaysia government can implement to reduce occurrence of inflated project cost, corrupted practices and bureaucracy in obtaining government projects; 1) Centralised E-Tendering System 2) Online Company Registration / Checking System, which both will be linked and cross checked against its financial health and portfolio.

However, this will not be enough.

Like what the current government is doing wrong, each ministry has their rights to appoint a software developer of their choice to implement some form of a system of their choice. Thus, causing many projects to be completed halfway or ran out of budget during the course of development or most likely the person in charge from the ministry had never heard of the term ‘maintenance’ and thus, leaving the system to outdate itself and die a natural cause.

In Singapore, there is a semi-government department known as Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) that manages all e-government initiative. They have teams of experts in many different areas that works with the different ministry on what should be done and what should not be done.

The new Malaysia should begin thinking about implementing a similar structure and in fact, improve on it and ensure that this new semi-government entity compromise a process where it has a singular objective and platform that integrate all e-government initiative/systems allowing them to cross reference with each other making it THE single most informative portal for every class of citizen there is in the country.

This will allow us to see every thing that the government does, it’s done for a reason, done in a systematically way and most importantly, the correct way.

Winning the election and becoming the ‘powers to be’ is no longer the formula to ensure longevity to rule. Technology has reached into the minds of the people and only results keep you running. The days where KeTuanan Melayu or Chinese Culture are gone. Welcome the days of Success and Accomplishment.

The win in Permatang Pauh is not the first step. It’s merely the movement a toe…

Oops, I’ve done it again…

by Independant Daily

Once again they are back. Bigger, better and it's probably not even the best yet…

This is probably the most old school strategy ever. If you are in a legal suite, you will know that if the witness testimony is gravely against your client, you will need to destroy the credibility of the witness. Doesn’t matter what the truth is. Forget about justice. It’s all about the money and power.

Yet again, our dim-witted Government strikes its last stance in a bid to retain its pot of gold, destroy the credibility of the person that stands in their way to richness and indefinite power.

Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi and his henchmen says that they have absolutely nothing to do with this. Despite his addiction to lies and deceit, I think he truly expects the people to believe him. Yes, he expects us to believe that the ‘election is not tomorrow’ and the ‘petrol prices won’t increase just yet’ only for him to contradict his statements no more than 24 hours later.

This is our Prime Minister. The Chief Executive of the country. The biggest liar in the country and yet, he expects the people to believe that his party have played no part in the return of ‘the scandal’. A scandal that rocked the nation once and boy did it rock that time. So, if it worked the first time, it must work the second time. The difference this time are the pawns at play.

Back then, a dictator dictated what needs to happen. Everything was plotted to perfection – almost. The dictator knew that the sodomisation charges won’t last and when the victim is at its weakest, he strikes his last stance – corruption. Handicapped him for 10 years.

This time, the players are different. The dictator is weak. In fact, some say, the dictator is being dictated to dictate what someone else wants dictated. Ahhh… is the dictator not who he appears to be in all mainstream newspaper? Honestly, its not that I don’t believe he can’t do it. I just believe he isn’t smart enough to dictate the whole show. Perhaps an Oxford graduate is most capable of dictating the dictator who thinks he is dictating but he is actually being dictated.

If the news have been twisted to this:

“A young 20-something man lodge a police report recently claiming that a 60 year old male politician over powered him and forced him into ‘extraordinary’ sexual intercourse against his religious faith. This 20-something year old man is believed be the special assistant to the politician and is in contention to be a pilot, something he had always wanted to be.

The young 20-something man claims that he was sodomised by Anwar on the 26th June in a condominium somewhere in KL. Police investigations are currently underway and they have even collected evidence from the purported crime scene” (Forgive the non-journalistic language)

What do you make of this? Possible? A 60-year old man stick his penis up some guys butt-hole while using force to immobilize the victim? 60 years old? Just because he is the ex-deputy prime minister or the prime minister to be, does is it give him some super human strength or super penis strength!

The 20-something year old man is a candidate for being a pilot which requires him to be in a certain physical fitness. You mean he can’t over power a 60-year old man or he can’t over power a 60-year old Anwar Ibrahim?

If this is not fishy, I don’t know what is. This epic has taught a really important lesson.

Our current government is totally stupid…

The Malaysian Prime Minister Poster

by Independant Daily

AY! CUT THE CRAP!

by Independant Daily

This is possibly the hottest discussed topic since the election and one that have caused much grievance to the people of the country.

I agree that the government cannot continue subsidizing fuel prices forever. I have no doubt that it has to increase in tandem with the global oil prices. It is not something that the government planned; it’s purely economics - supply and demand.

But the stance that the government had employed is nonetheless, idiotic. One of the reason why Malaysia remain in such pathetic state is purely because the current government, the one that had been governing for the past 50 years failed to understand a simple term known as ‘cause and effect’.

The effect of increasing the petrol prices by a whopping 37.7% overnight will be devastating. The government could have at least warned that the increase will be of such magnitude. The government should have prepare for the effect of this and provide assistance to those who planned to change their lifestyle to accommodate to this massive change. I truly believe the government should have:

1. Significantly improve the public transport so the people can prepare to switch to public transportation with immediate effect.

2. Held talks and negotiations with Tenaga and other Government link organizations to ensure that other commodities will not be affected by the increase.

3. Look into the reduction of other costs to the rakyat like income tax, automobile import duty, toll rates and others to cushion the impact of the increase.

Why the government is a failure and idiotic is they look into these things after the increase and causing everyone in the country to panic. Hawkers, transportation companies, sundry prices will all follow by at least 10-20% increase in tandem.

With all sorts of people throwing a piece of their mind into this hot discussion what has our Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi said so far? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Change is what we wanted and hope is what we got...

by Indepedant Daily

I have spoken to many people these few days and many have asked me what is my view of the new political situation. I have said the same thing to many people: Bad for the next 12 months and brilliant for the future!

Indicatively, just indicatively, the KLSI fell 130 points today. By mid-day, it had already breach the 100 points limit. Yes, its quite bad indeed. The faint-hearted ones are already, saying, "shit! should have voted the BN instead. Now i am losing money!" This is called the Malaysian way la. Not long sighted enough...

Like i always, whatever bad things that happens, there are always some positive that you can pick out of it. In this case, try looking it at a different perspective where the nosedive in sharemarket prices is a just an appetizer to what a huge feast that may come after.

The basic rule of business is, buy low, sell high. In the next couple of months, it could reach the lowest in many years. But is it going to go high? I have no doubt.

If BN can maintain our country's economy with a part-time Finance Minister that has a Islamic Studies Degree, these new state governments with candidate that has degree in Economics, Politics and Philosophy, Law, Medicine and/or Political Science can certainly do more. I am not saying Abdullah Badawi has done a bad job as a Finance Minister, I am saying he has NEVER been a Finance Minister albeit carrying the title.

BN have run the country for 50 years with Petronas making tens of billions annually. By 2012, when we run out of oil, we will certainly need to worry. If we cannot compete with neighbouring countries that does not produce oil, we certainly won't be able to compete with them when we are out of it.

The BN coalition has lost more than 30% of votes compare to the last election this term. I sincerely hope that these new breed of technology savvy, young, hungry, aggressive politicians can do what they promised, achieve what they intended and escalate the country to greater heights, well at least they have 5 states to start off with. If they can achieve this in the next 5 years running their states, i'll be more than happy to hand them the country 5 years from now.

Barisan Rakyat, the people have given you an opportunity handed to you on a silver platter. Take it and cherish this moment for this could be the only chance that could happen in another 50 years if you fail to deliver what you promised. I have hope that one day, I will be able to walk the streets of Malaysia without worrying about my handbag, let my children play without worrying about seeing them next dead in a sports bag and seeing my deputy prime minister's mistress blown up in pieces. hehe.. just joking la....

We certainly did what we intended and what we got is something called Hope....

BN will collapse without 2/3 majority - Najib

Source: Lim Kit Siang

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said yesterday that it was crucial for the Barisan Nasional to retain its two-thirds majority in Parliament as a prerequisite of strong government.
He said: “In this era of globalization, they would only invest in our capital market if they had confidence.

“If we have a weak government which can collapse at any time, they would just go and invest in other countries which have a stronger and more stable government.”

This is the political myth which had led Malaysia up the “garden path” for half a century and why Malaysia had failed to fulfill the potential to be a great competitive global nation, contributing our assets and resources to make other nations like Singapore more successful and pulling ahead us while we continue to fall behind one nation after another.

Is Najib seriously suggesting that if Barisan Nasional (BN) loses two-thirds parliamentary majority in the 8th March polls, the Barisan Nasional cannot govern and there will be anarchy and chaos in Malaysia?

Clearly Najib is not very good in maths. If BN is to lose its two-thirds parliamentary majority, it must lose at least 75 out of a total of 222 parliamentary seats, i.e. leaving the BN still with a solid phalanx of 147 MPs. This will give the BN a huge majority of 72 seats which will be the envy of all governments in first-world developed nations.

I challenge Najib to state and justify why the BN with a 72-seat parliamentary majority cannot govern effectively and will be a “weak government which can collapse any time”?
Is the Barisan Nasional coalition government so fragile and unstable that even with a 72-seat majority in Parliament, it could collapse any time?

Do we now have a new meaning of “Malaysia Boleh”, which was invented by the previous Prime Minister Tun Mahathir , under the Abdullah premiership?

Is Najib serious when he said that if Barisan Nasional loses its parliamentary two-thirds majority, Malaysia will lose out in the era of globalization as investors will shy away from Malaysia and will not invest in Malaysia?

Leaving aside Asia, I challenge Najib to name the first-world developed nations in the West whose ranks Malaysia hopes to join under Vision 2020 which are uncompetitive and unable to attract foreign investors because they do not have two-third parliamentary majorities for the ruling government or coalition.I would like to know which fully-developed nation in the First World has a two-third parliamentary majority for the ruling government or coalition!
Najib is indulging in the irresponsible politics of fear and scare in the 12th general election campaign.

In fact, it is the removal of the BN two-thirds parliamentary majority and end of Umno political hegemony which are the prerequisites for Malaysia to achieve BN 2004 manifesto of “excellence, glory and distinction” and Vision 2020 objective of an united, dynamic, progressive fully developed nation.

If Malaysia is to become truly competitive and to become a first-world developed nation by 2020, we must now develop the mindset, mentality and culture of a first-world developed nation and not wait until 2020 to remove the two-third parliamentary majority – for then we will have to wait for another 30 years until 2050!

We have had enough!

by Independant Daily

We know the battle for independance was difficult and long and treacherous but no matter what obstacle that lay ahead an impossible battle was faught and won. 50 years down the road, what was a part of the great British empire, is now Malaysia.

For 50 years, we were dominated by Barisan Nasional and for 50 years we saw growth. Growth not by capability but growth by force as the world economy grows and by being who we are and where we are, we grow along.

At what rate have we grown and in comparison with younger countries, have we achieved a milestone? No.

Are we are as competitive as our neighbouring countries? No.

Are we as safe as our neighbouring countries? No.

Do we have an education system that makes us employable globally? No.

Do we have a health system that enables the young and old, the far and near to get a hint of what medical benefits is? No.

Do we have a government that is transparent, open, clean and fair? NO.

We have been told long enough that saying out loud what we have in mind is wrong. We have been told many times opposing the ruling government is against the law, the law of Barisan Nasional. We have been told to accept what is given to us or leave the country.

We.have.had.enough!

We are here again at the crossroad of lies, false hopes and election promises. Years after years we have been waiting for a change and this is what it is about now. Change. We.want.a.change!

It was written in the Federal Constitutions our rights as Malaysians. It has been taken away long enough. The ultimate right as a citizen of a country is now served to you on a silver plater. Take it and make a change!

Vote against corrupted politicians.

Vote against incapable leaders.

Vote against low quality education.

Vote against inaccesible medical services.

Vote against wasted public funds.

Vote against media control.

Vote against racialsm.

Vote against Barisan Nasional.

BN - 2004 Brochure...

Khairy Jamaluddin: 18 years of empty promises is enough. It is time for change!

by Independant Daily

Khairy Jamaluddin said this about Kelantan when launching Pade Doh (which means Enough is Enough in Kelantanese) campagin. They even launch a logo with cross over the number 18 which marks the number of years PAS have dominated Kelantan. He even added that the people should try BN for 5 years and make a comparison and remarked that the people don't want the same 'thing' referring them to the 'empty promises' that PAS had made.

Well, i couldn't agree with this chap more. I mean seriously! I don't know anything about PAS and/or Kelantan except for their great holiday destination and food. What i do know however is, he is right to say that people should try a different ruling party. So, i am sure being a great leader, he would say the same to all the people around Malaysia, if you have tasted the same shit for 50 years, its time to make a change! Try the opposition for 5 years and make a comparison.

Here's my campaign to you old chap!

Abdullah: We have the experience in developing the country!

by Independant Daily

The Barisan Nasional have experience in developing the country says Abdullah. Well, in all honesty, there is no doubt about that. They are the only party that have rulled the country. Who else in this country that say that they are more experience. Nobody!

What The Rakyat should now ask is, i know you have the experience, i know we have progressed over the passed 50 years but why have we not progressed as positively as Singapore or Korea has?

The Barisan Nasional have compared Malaysia with the worst in the world just to make themselves look like they have done a honourable job. The fact is far from the truth because we are significantly under developed if compared to the likes of Singapore, who has practically 'zero' natural resources. Even South Korea whom still faces the possibility of war with North Korea are doing amazingly/significantly better than us.

Why then, Abdullah Badawi, should we continue to support The Barisan Nasional whom have continously wasted public funds, shun public responsiblity and acted harshly upon those who fought for the rights of The Rakyat, who fought for their own belief and those who actually love the country more than power, money and fame?

For 50 years, we have been 'blessed' with lies, stories and scandals. I do not know if the opposition is going to make it better but at least i know if the opposition wins, i don't have to live with the same shit again for the next 5 years.

If i could make a wish that would certainly come true, i'd wish that i can live in a Malaysia that is free from corruption, free from un-educated leaders, free from money-embezzling politicians and free from irresponsible leaders.

The feeling of betrayal...

by Independant Daily

When the government boast about the coalition having both Indian and Chinese parties and that they know exactly what the Chinese wants and yada yada yada and etc etc etc, few days ago i read a piece of news that made me spit on my shiny Chinese ass.

PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi says he will decide if Dr Koh Tsu Koon cannot make up his mind to stay on as Penang CM or move to a federal post.

Why you ask?

Gerakan is an party independant of UMNO. They are part of the coalition but they do not succumb to anyone. Or at least that is what we thought. Today the president of UMNO decides, the presidential seat of Gerakan. Tomorrow, the president of UMNO decides the presidential seat of MCA and MIC.

The day after, a Malay will be the president MCA or MIC because it may look like a Malay or sound like a Malay but he cannot be 100% certain. He needs to go for a DNA test but Malaysia cannot do it, so have to send to Australia and wait 2 years. Results will be inconclusive, another test will need to be conducted and 4 years later, it is finally confirmed that he is not Malay and he needs to step down.

By then, his Son-In-Law will be PM they don't need MCA or MIC anymore because they have betrayed their own races.

Malaysia BOLEH!

Parliament have been dissolved

by Independant Daily

The parliament has been dissolved the Prime Minister today. Therefore making the country 'government-less' at least until after the election. So if i critised anyone now, i'll be criticising our 'previous' government right. So its ok. At least i think so...

Anyway, during the CNY break i was reading the The Star and i notice an extremely brilliant piece of information that says the Malaysia per capita income(or PCI or average income per person) have increase over the years during the tenure of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi. Seriously?

Per Capita Income (PCI) (sometimes called National Income or Personal
Income) is derived by dividing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by the
population. There are number reasons to believe Nor Yakcop’s claim as
suspicious.

If the population is assumed as not growing, our GDP should rise by 40%
from 2004 to 2007. That is not true since the Ministry of Finance reported
growth for 2005, 2006 and 2007 at 5.0%, 5.9% and estimated 6.0%, respectively.
That’s only a simple total of GDP growth of 16.9%.

How then have our PCI increased 40%? Click here to find out.

How to make money

by Independant Daily

Being a typical Malaysian, we are usually very tight on the purse and every month we would have just enough money to last through the final minutes of the final day of the month after paying all the rents, mobile phone bills, insurance, etc, etc...

So everyone asks each other, is there any way we can make really good money? Is it that difficul to make a decent living around here?

Well, you'll surprise how easy it is. Here is a step-by-step guide:

1. Make sure you know the right people in the Malaysian ruling government. So far, the easiest target seems to the Road and Transport Minister.

2. Sell to him that there is a need for a service to screen everyone that drives on the road for safety reason. Doesn't matter if the public hospital are already doing it for free, its SAFETY! You can always do it again!

3. Charge RM80 per health screen. Doesn't matter if the public hospital charges you close to nothing, its only RM80. Malaysia economy is good! Everyone can afford it! Don't worry, the Road and Transport Minister don't have details to anything...

4. Just make up some numbers so the RM80 makes sense. Like erm... Pos Malaysia RM2, RM10 is for operating costs, RM35 go to the doctors and RM25 to laboratories and erm.. Oh, the company needs to make money ma, so the company gets RM8. But Koperasi Doktor Malaysia Bhd chairman, Dr. J. S. Deo says health screen is RM5.90 only for a minimum of 1000test. Never mind, the minister won't have that details. So what if the public knows, they sign the agreement or the minister sign the agreement? Don't worry, the public cannot do anything.

5. Assuming that your company pays the lab RM10 and doctors RM40 you would still get an estimated RM30 per health screen. Assuming there are about 1 million commercial vehicles drivers out there, you'll get an estimated RM30 million per year! And all you do is, well, nothing really. Because at the end, only the Road and Transport minister and Police are allowed to conduct checks.

Since they don't have any information systems, so you don't need also. You use the doctors who already owns a clinic or go to the hospital. All you need is some people to scrible something on some form you pre-print for a million copies and give some fake report to the ministry that you are doing a great job.

Q: The government could do it themselves, why you need to set up a company to do it for the government?

A: Ahhhh... that's why you see, its good to live in this country. You do a profit-sharing deal with the correct people then you get the deal la! You so stupid, the country is peaceful and prosperous and you don't know to make use of it.

Q: What if the public finds out? We'll be crusified!

A: Don't worry... the media is controlled by my member. You don't need to know who my member is. Just don't worry, we can always put the blame on the opposition party and other associations.

If you have more question, leave a message, i'll answer it for you.

Misunderstanding...

by Independant Daily

There has been too much news on various blogs recently but no news at all on the any of our major newspaper.

The major news that needs reported have not been reported and those that requires the least coverage are on the headlines.

But most important of all, there is one thing that i would like to say. And that is the people, the government and the country have misunderstood one single very important notion.

The Non-Malays are not against the Malays. The non-Malays are against the Government and its policies. If a Non-Malay within the government makes a mistake, it does not go unnotice by their own race. Just because the majority race within the government are Malay does not make the anti-government anti-Malays as well.

This is a fact. For Non-Malays, embrace this. We do not wish to see a blood bath, we wish to see a good government for our country.

This scandal is definately underrated

by Independant Daily

As the country of late is ridled by scandal after scandal it is quite interesting to see the reaction of the public to the latest scandal that has went almost unmentioned.

I mentioned this in one of my earlier blogs: Auditor General: RM1.4b for patrol vessels unjustified. In fact, when i saw it i felt well, RM1.4b is nothing compared to the PKFZ scandal but if you look close enough it actually is equally bad.

From Malaysia Today, i understand the true devastation this scandal is. Let me break it up for you but you should also see the story from Malaysia Today.

The original contract price, RM5.35 billion for 6 patrol vassel for the Royal Malaysian Navy. Meant to be delivered starting from March 2004 over a period of 3 years ending April 2007.

The current situation, 2 vessels delivered with 44 incompleted items (Its like a buying a car that moves but with 44 things like radio, speedometer, fuel meter, seat belt, etc, etc not fitted in or not working la) with a total paid sum of RM4.26 billion.

What has happened? Another fruther total of RM1.4 billion is approved for Penang Shipbuilding & Construction Sdn Bhd-Naval Dockyard Sdn Bhd, the company contracted to built these vassels, have been approved by the government. The remaining 4 vessels are between 18.5% and 55.9% completion.

Penang Shipbuilding & Construction Sdn Bhd-Naval Dockyard Sdn Bhd is owned by Amin Shah Omar Shah a once UMNO guy.

Assuming an all time low of 1% bank interest per annum for RM6.75 billion for 10 years, we would have lost an additional RM675 million. Adding that to the RM6.75 billion, these 6 vessels would cost approximately RM1.2 billion each, inflated from an average cost of RM800 million each which i think was already inflated to begin with.

There you go Malaysians, this is what you pay taxes for. RM1.2billion for a fishing boat that doesn't even work properly.

Budget 2008 - Again....

I recently wrote something about the budget and not to say that it was bad but its nothing great to celebrate about la. Today, i came accross a super interesting article!

This article astonish me so much that its difficult to believe that it is true. Can you imagine, if your dad say to you, "Hey, i got a raise today. From today onwards, we are to have a improve spending power of 10%!" YAY! BUT....

What if he LIED! jeng jeng jeng jeng....

Behold Citizens of Malaysia....

It is our neighbour that sniffed out something rotten from the candy jar and now the question, did he lied so the budget looks good? or was it a slip of a moment? or even worst, did the Finance Minister actually READ the Budget or was he merely reading a speech prepared by one his many writers?

So what is the problem??

On the 7th of September, the FM announced:

124. Government expenditure will continue to focus on capacity building to support sustainable economic growth through provision of infrastructure, public facilities, education and social services, including health and welfare of Malaysians. For the strategies and programmes which I have announced, I proposed that, a sum of RM176.9 billion be appropriated in 2008 Budget, 10.9% higher compared with 2007. Of this, RM128.8 billion is for Operating Expenditure while RM48.1 billion for Development Expenditure.

but on the 8th of September, TheStar the subsequently ran this story with the following incerpt

A total of RM168.8bil has been allocated under Budget 2008 – an increase of 2.5% over 2007. Of the total, RM128.8bil is for operating expenditure and the balance RM40bil for development expenditure.

Now, i am no Economist or Financial analyst or whatever you call those guys who actually does all of these kinda of stuff but if you apply logics like what we IT guys are used to do, its very simple.

First, if you take note RM176.9b minus RM168.8b does equals to RM8.1b which is the same amount if you subtract RM48.1b with RM40b. So, I am guessing what happened was, initially the FM announced the national budget to the public for RM176.9b and for some unknown reasons was later reduced by RM8.1b.

I've searched both articles for anything worth RM8.1b and couldn't find any and even if they do, there is a descrepancy because initially the developement expenditure was expected to be RM48.1b and one day later it was reduced to RM40b!

So, i dig deep.

126. For Development Expenditure, the largest allocation of RM20.6 billion is for the economic sector comprising agriculture, industry and infrastructure sectors. A sum of RM15.6 billion is allocated to the social sector encompassing education, health and housing. The security sector is given RM7 billion, while administration is provided with RM2.9 billion and for Contingencies, RM2 billion.
If you add all of these up, it will come up to RM8.1b. So i thought, could it be that it is a simple mathematical error, that someone from The Star assume that the Developement Expenditure was RM40b, add it with the Operational Expenditure and it became RM168.8b? Possible - maybe....

When i was looking at the chart on TheStar and...

a third figure appeared: RM157,496B! although it had a little star saying it excludes Contigency reserve which is only RM2b, Ok, So we add it up to RM159.5b.

Let's just take one example, Economic Services. According to the Budget RM20.6b is allocated. Accoring to this chart, it makes 10.6% of the budget. So the question now is which figure do i take to calculate the amount of 10.6%? Anyway, let's try all....

So,

0.106 X RM159.5b = RM16.907b

0.106 X RM168.8b = RM17.89b

0.106 X RM176.9b = RM18.75b

So which one is it la!! Shit, i don't know man!

As far as i am concern now, the budget is as good as non-existence. Everything that is being publish by the media so far contradicts one day from another. And why is this is sniffed out by our neighbour and not ourselves? You mean to tell me that no financial analyst in a country with a population of 22million people bothered to ask some questions and some 4 million people accross a river did!

Something is wrong and we as the citizens should be concern. Either the FM is not doing his job or someone is pulling an Ocean's 11.

Malaysian government rejects calls for probe into Terengganu riots

By Channel NewsAsia's Malaysia Correspondent Melissa Goh

Original Article from Channel News Asia

The Malaysian government has rejected the opposition's call for an independent inquiry into the bloody weekend clash in the north-eastern state of Terengganu. Seven people were injured, including two who were hit by live bullets.

Speaking to our correspondent, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Nazri Aziz, defended the firing of tear gas and use of water canons by police. The clash between Malaysian riot police and more than 500 people attending a public forum took place in the heart of Terengganu state.

During the forum organised by the opposition coalition, the speaker delivered a lecture calling for clean and fair elections. Police say the crowd had gathered without a legal permit, so they fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the people. Seven were injured and more than 20 arrested.

Also for the first time, live bullets were alleged to have been fired into the crowd, severely injuring two opposition Islamic Party members. Although their condition is said to be stable, the opposition has demanded an immediate independent inquiry into the incident.

Opposition and human rights leaders have condemned what they call excessive use of force by the police. Mustapa Ali, Chief (Terengganu), Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party, said: "There must be a thorough investigation by an independent body because we believe what happened was planned and premeditated by the government and the police. They will find any avenue to stop our message from reaching the masses.

" Denying the charges, the government also rejected the need for an independent inquiry. Nazri Aziz said: "It's very clear. You don't have the permit, you don't do it. There are laws in this country so you don't need a royal commission to look into this." Mr Nazri said the crowd triggered the clash by hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails at the police.

He added: "Police are also normal human beings. They've been attacked by a group of people they have every right to defend themselves, you can't wait till you're injured."

Despite the government's defence of the police action, opposition and human rights groups have vowed not to let the matter rest, saying they'll sue the police, press for debate in parliament, and continue holding more rallies.

Those Middlemen in Government Projects Smells

by R. Nadeswaran and Terence Fernandez

Original Article from The Sun - Unhealthy Practices

Middlemen stand to gain almost half-a-billion ringgit under the Road Transport Department (RTD)’s e-Kesihatan project to conduct drug tests on drivers, attendants and conductors of commercial vehicles.

By its own projections, Supremme Systems Sdn Bhd – the company awarded the concession by the Transport Ministry – will make RM92 million over 15 years.

But those in the know argue that this figure is grossly under-estimated, claiming that RM400 million would be a more accurate number, based on 800,000 drivers.

However, working on 1.2 million drivers – the company’s projection – the figure would cross the RM500 million mark.

It was announced yesterday that from Oct 1 those applying for or renewing commercial vehicle licences must go for medical tests at designated panel clinics.

The Transport Ministry signed the concession agreement on Sept 3 and almost immediately doctors were invited to register with Supremme Systems.

According to the agreement, the drivers are to be tested for opium, cannabis albumin, sugar and antropine substances.

What makes this venture stink of another money-making scheme involving a chosen few, is that Supremme Systems will not conduct the tests. Instead, it will be carried out by a panel of doctors selected by the company, who will be paid less than half the proposed RM85 fee – RM30; with RM20 going for laboratory tests.

The remainder – about RM35 – will go to the company.

Many medical practitioners oppose the arrangement which they feel is nothing more than a rent-seeking exercise.

The doctors claim that they had, through Koperasi Doktor Malaysia Bhd, submitted a comprehensive proposal to the ministry last year with two scales of fees – much lower than Supremme Systems’.

They argue that it is the doctor who will have to carry out the tests and take responsibility for the certification and that there is no necessity for middlemen to be involved.

"They are getting paid for doing nothing. Any monitoring must be conducted by the RTD," said one doctor, adding that fees can be kept low if such middlemen were eliminated.

"It seems that the main agenda here is to make money and not to have more competent drivers on our roads,’’ said the doctor.

The practitioners also argue that Supremme Systems had been selective when deciding who can participate in the scheme.

"Why should only a selected few be involved when the whole profession should help ensure that we have safe drivers on our roads?’’ asked another doctor.

Letters of invitation to be a panel member of e-Kesihatan have been sent to several private practitioners, asking them, among others to pay Supremme Systems RM100 as registration, stamp duties and service agreement charges.

Those interested to be panel doctors are also required to have professional indemnity insurance. Supremme Systems was previously known as Pantai Supremme System Sdn Bhd.

According to information obtained from a search with the Companies Commisson yesterday, it is owned by a company called Hormat Bestari, which in turn is controlled by Nordin Yahya, Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus, Kuwi Anak Mel and Yew Bein Gin.

Nordin and Tunku Syed Razman control Arah Fikir Sdn Bhd, which owns 48% of Hormat Bestari. Kuwi and Yew control Kerjaya Unggul Sdn Bhd which owns 50% of Hormat Bestari.

Nordin Yahya was an original shareholder of Pantai Supremme through a company called Title Effect. Both Title Effect and Pantai Holdings (which was subsequently taken over by Singapore based Parkway Holdings) used to own Pantai Supremme.

The Batuk Buruk "Riot"

by Lim Kit Siang

Picked from Lim Kit Siang

(Speech on the 2008 Budget in Parliament on Monday, 10th September 2008)

I must start with the shameful episode to the nation, which marred not only the presentation of the 2008 budget but also the 50th Merdeka Anniversary celebrations – the police firing live bullets at a ceramah crowd at Batu Burok, Kuala Terengganu on Saturday night and wounding two and the ensuing confrontation between the crowd and the police.

In 24 hours, the minimal “feel good” effect created by the 2008 Budget had been destroyed by two incidents - the police contempt for human rights and excessive use of force in Batu Burok on Saturday night and the latest Auditor-General’s Reports highlighting continuing widespread and incorrigible government inefficiency and waste of public funds.

All Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or political beliefs, are shocked by what happened in Batu Burok on Saturday night, especially with the mainstream media carrying screaming headlines like “750 pembangkang merusuh, rosakkan harta awam di Terengganu” (Utusan Malaysia), “4 polis cedera rusuhan di Kuala Terengganu” (Berita Harian), “RM1m damage, 23 held in riot” (New Straits Times), “Ceramah clash” (The Star), “23 held and 7 injured in riot” (The Sun).

Why did a traditionally peaceful ceramah organized by Bersih, a coalition of political parties and NGOs campaigning for free and fair elections degenerate into a confrontation between the police and the crowd, turning it into a “riot” with police firing live bullets, resulting in four being hospitalized and 23 arrested?
